In Part 1 of our series, we laid out the trillion-dollar economic case for investing in women’s health. Now, we turn to the innovators and investors answering the call.
The economic potential has not gone unnoticed. Investors are pouring capital into the FemTech and MedTech spaces, fueling a wave of innovation. According to GrandView Research, the FemTech market alone is projected to be a $100 billion opportunity by 2030.
A growing number of new devices, diagnostics, and digital health platforms are designed with women’s bodies in mind. As noted by the life sciences firm Barrington James, the medical device industry is making significant strides in areas like minimally invasive gynecological surgery, advanced breast cancer screening technologies, and smart menstrual health trackers. This surge is a direct response to a massive, underserved population historically overlooked in medical research and product development, a gap that cancer intelligence companies like Astrin Biosciences are working to close.
However, this path is not without its challenges. As the digital health intelligence firm Galen Growth points out, FemTech drew $2.2B in 2024 but that’s still only 8.5% of digital health funding with 71% of startups under six years old yet to reach Series A. Significant roadblocks remain. Having a groundbreaking product is only half the battle; connecting it with the women whose lives it can change is the other.
— In Part 3, we’ll expose the biggest and most frustrating roadblock of all: a digital advertising ecosystem that is systematically biased against women. —
